Written in post WW2, but containing lines that you would think are from present day, this is an outlandish comedy about mob mentality, mindless conformity, and the absurdity of all that is the human condition. A rhinoceros suddenly appears in a quaint town creating a path of destruction and terror and changing everyday lives of the citizens. One by one characters turn into a rhino, even those you wouldn’t expect, and thus they abandon all their beliefs and join the “movement”. It’s up to an unforeseen hero to be the savior of humanity by not backing down. The play is a metaphor about the rise of fascism and dangerous tyrants coming to power. It delves into the grey areas about why people succumb to mob mentality in the first place and what we can do about it all. It’s a play that makes people laugh, but also makes them reflect on the people around them—and for that reason, now is the time to stage it.

Rhinoceros is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.

PLEASE NOTE: We regret to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to cancel the show on the 23rd and instead do a staged reading of the show on the 22nd. Actors will be in costume and make up but may refer to their script occasionally. Tickets for this show will be $5. We apologize for any inconvenience.
